LG A1 : Almost perfect black levels with vibrant colors

It is time to replace the old LCD TV with OLED technology. Reasons are not lacking when checking the visual performance of the LG A1. A model for this 2021 that incorporates a series of small but important improvements. The pursuit of the best home theater experience with Dolby Vision IQ support for HDR and HDR GiG gaming. We review the main features of the LG OLED65A1 in our review.

Design and materials

Taking the television out of the box we will discover that it is simply fantastic. One of the main aesthetic characteristics of OLED televisions lies in their minimum thickness. Thanks to the technology of its panel, we will discover that it is barely a few millimeters deep. It is true that once placed we will not notice it, but we will appreciate it if we place it on a VESA wall mount. However, it is not exempt from having a small box for the plate and the connections of the television. Obviously, somewhere these elements have to go.

Narrow bezels for total immersion in images

This LG A1 rests on two V-shaped metal legs, with a fixed position and with a depth of 27 cm. Stability is good at all times and we shouldn’t worry about it ending up on the ground. With its 65-inch diagonal, the LG OLED65A16LA occupies a surface area of 149.9 cm and has a weight of 24 kg. The display bezels, unsurprisingly, are a few millimeters. Therefore, the LG OLED65A16LA has a screen area of 95% of the front . Immersion in movies and video games is guaranteed, an experience for your senses.

Finally, the LG OLED65A1 TV includes the well-known Magic Remote . For those who do not know it, it is a control that allows you to point to the different options in the system menus or apps. To do this, it uses a visual pointer in the interface that reacts to the movements we make with the controller. Consequently, navigating is much more intuitive. Nor does it lack the integrated microphone to activate the voice functions of assistants such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

Image quality of the LG A1

What does OLED technology have to grab all the spotlights? LG’s new OLED panels are equipped with self-luminous pixels, eliminating backlighting from LCD / LED TVs. These pixels have an independent ignition, guaranteeing richness of color and contrast. In this way, it manages to show pure black and the maximum precision in the representation of colors. In fact, OLED TVs have 100% color fidelity and 10-bit color depth.

Returning to the model we analyzed, it mounts a 65-inch panel with a 4K resolution, obtaining a pixel density of 68 dpi. Another advantage of this technology is that its viewing angles are wide, both from a horizontal and vertical point of view. It maintains the intensity of its color even if we are watching the TV diagonally. A great advantage if we share a family movie.

LG OLED65A1 TV main features

Although it is not an inexpensive TV, it is justified by its image quality and the versatility of its picture modes. But before we get down to it, we have to talk about the performance of the intelligent 4K α7 Gen4 processor with AI. A little brain that is capable of some really amazing adjustments. For example, we have automatic face enhancement, AI brightness management, noise reduction, scene recognition mode or a 4K image scaler.

Cinema, games and everything we want

As you can see, your processor is in charge of taking full advantage of the possibilities of the OLED panel. So this is how you get an immersive audiovisual experience from HDR Dolby Vision iQ with AI image settings and automatic adjustment of room lighting conditions. It also incorporates the HLG standard and HDR10 Pro, although we kneel before Dolby Vision. Discover a new level of detail with an excellent balance of contrast and brightness.

High dynamic range adjusts luminance to enhance color, even discovering details in dark areas of the image. A metadata analysis that also takes place with the Filmmaker Mode that disables the rendering of the television for a real viewing of the film, as it was created by its director. An initiative promoted by the celluloid industry to bring the pure cinema experience to the home.

But between film and series, we can always play a game on our PC or next-generation console. Therefore, the LG OLED65A16LA incorporates HDMI 2.0 connectivity, compatible with ALLM low latency. Reduce response time in your games and try game type presets. In addition, its game optimizer allows you to adjust some interesting parameters and activate the HDR GiG.

Connectivity and sound

In relation to the connections, some connections are missing such as HDMI 2.1 that we did see in the LG OLED55C15LA . However, they are not faults that all users will miss, especially if they are not going to play video games. Looking at its data sheet we have 3 HDMI 2.0 connectors, one of them compatible with ALLM and eARC. We also see 2 USB ports for connecting storage drives, optical audio output, and Ethernet LAN. Regarding wireless, it includes Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 5GHz and access to voice assistants Alexa and Google Assistant.

Rear and side TV connectivity

The sound configuration is also according to the characteristics of the connectivity. We are not going to have a surprising section but it is very decisive. It incorporates a 2-channel system with a power of 20W RMS, 10W per channel. In addition, it benefits from intelligent AI Sound processing and Dolby Atmos surround sound technology .
