Google has released the first beta version of Android TV 14. Notably, the search giant has abandoned plans to use Android 13 in its TV operating system, so the new version of Android TV is based on Android 14. Until now, the company has largely remained silent about key features the upcoming release, so it happened with the current update, which came out quietly and without any public announcement. The developers have yet to dig into the system, but something interesting has already been discovered. We are talking about the ability to receive calls on devices with Android TV 14.

If someone wanted to receive calls on the big screen, then soon it will become a reality. Android researcher Mishaal Rahman found evidence in Android TV 14 beta 1 that the beta version of the system received support for incoming call notifications. What’s more, Android TV 14 will allow users to receive these calls from supported apps on their TVs. All this will work when the user has logged into his account (the same as on a smartphone). By the way, Android TV 14 is not the only TV operating system that will receive call support. Apple also recently announced plans to add FaceTime to tvOS 17 and Apple TV 4K.
Mishaal Rahman also talked about some of the other innovations in Android TV 14 beta 1. These include more HDR options, power management features, and improved audio device management.
According to him, the system has an image quality setting that allows you to force the use of the HDR or SDR format. There is a power mode with “low”, “moderate”, “high” and “unlimited” settings that limit network functions. Finally, the toolbar now shows active Bluetooth headphones and audio devices. This should greatly simplify the process of pairing with them.
