HP buys HyperX to strengthen its position in accessories

New acquisition will allow Hewlett-Packard to compete with more successful companies like Dell and Lenovo.

According to GlobeNewswire, Hewlett-Packard is acquiring HyperX, a subsidiary of American Kingston Technology, for $ 425 million. This step will allow HP to reach a new level of production and sale of computers. The company expects the deal to close in the second quarter of 2021.

With the purchase of HyperX, HP will have access to a wide range of console hardware and advanced gaming accessories. The company will receive additional profit from the sale of keyboards, mice, headsets, microphones. The new acquisition will also give HP an edge over PC leaders such as Dell and Lenovo. After all, these companies offer very meager catalogs of gaming accessories.

Interestingly, the announced purchase does not apply to HyperX’s memory and solid-state storage business. These developments will remain under the wing of Kingston.

Note that HP is not the only computer manufacturer that buys up small businesses. The American company Corsair, which has already become the owner of the Origin PC system builder and Scuf gamepad veteran, operates in the same scenario.
