Apple’s new displays will get a low-power smart home mode

According to Mark Gurman , the two new displays will be successors to the Pro Display XDR and Apple Studio Display. Each of them will receive an as-yet-unnamed system-on-a-chip that is used in one of the iPhones.

Using a chip of A13 Bionic level or younger will allow you to enable power saving mode. The same chip is in the Studio Display, but it’s only used for spatial audio and the camera’s Central Stage function. But according to Mr. Gurman, Apple will be able to position the new low-power displays as smart home displays.

This will probably be an analogue of StandBy in iOS 17 – using this feature, an iPhone, fixed horizontally, displays the player, stocks, calendar and other basic functions on the locked screen. Probably, similar functionality will be promoted to new displays.

It is not yet known exactly when Apple will release new displays, but it is unlikely to happen before next year.
