Sony α9 III, α1 and α7S III will get built-in C2PA signing and authentication

Sony α9 III, α1 and α7S III cameras will receive a digital signature and C2PA authentication to combat images generated by artificial intelligence.

Back in November, Sony confirmed that they were in the second phase of testing to add C2PA signature and authentication. Testing has now been completed and a major firmware update is being prepared for release for the Sony α9 III , Sony α1 and Sony α7S III .

A firmware update, due out this spring, will allow you to add digital signatures to captured photos and videos. Consequently, photo agencies and stocks will give preference to images captured on cameras, which will make it easy to recognize the authenticity of the images and will help to easily distinguish the real image from the one created by artificial intelligence.

It is known that Canon and Nikon are also actively working on this technology and will add digital signature functions to their professional cameras starting in 2024.
