Panasonic Lumix GH6: A new generation camera with a focus on video shooting

Simultaneously with the presentation of the new Panasonic GH5 Mark II mirrorless camera, the company announced the development of the Panasonic GH6 ( Lumix DC-GH6) – a new generation camera with a focus on video shooting. As is customary in such cases, the company has revealed only a few details about the future camera. The GH6 is expected to be announced at the end of 2021. The price is said to be around $ 2500.

From the presented picture for the press, not very much is clear

The company describes the GH6 as “the next milestone in the evolution of the legacy of LUMIX cameras . ” We know from the press release that she will receive a completely new die and a high-speed processor. Since the camera will be focused on video shooting, the new filling will allow you to shoot 10-bit 4: 2: 2 DCI 4K / 60p video to internal media without any restrictions on recording time.

The company also promises 10-bit 5.7K / 60p, probably a 4: 2: 0 stream. A 10-bit 4K / 120p high frame rate recording mode with audio recording will also be available. On the question of whether the GH6 will be able to output ProRes RAW and / or Blackmagic RAW to external recorders, nothing is said.

Regarding possible overheating, the press release guarantees unlimited recording time if “the camera is used at a certified operating temperature  , and this time is limited only by the capacity of the memory card and battery. Of course, the camera mount will remain the same – Micro Four Thirds.
