Panasonic Lumix G9 II will receive ProRes RAW recording function

Panasonic Lumix G9 II will receive ProRes RAW recording function on the recorder

Panasonic will release a major firmware update for the Panasonic Lumix G9 II camera. The new software will add the ability to record Blackmagic RAW and ProRes RAW via HDMI to compatible monitor-recorders. This update will significantly improve the video shooting capabilities of the new camera.

Panasonic clarifies that firmware 2.0 will allow recording to an external Blackmagic Video Assist (BRAW) recorder or an Atomos recorder (ProRes RAW). Thus, the camera will allow you to record 12-bit video with a resolution of 5.7K, C4K, 5.8K (4:3) and 4.4K (4:3).

The appropriate firmware must also be installed on a compatible recorder (for example, Blackmagic Video Assist).

Additionally, Panasonic notes that when recording in C4K resolution at 120p or 100p, or 5.7K resolution at 60p or 50p, a constant bitrate of 5:1 (BRAW) or less is recommended for SSD recording and 8:1 or less for SD recording -map.

The Panasonic Lumix G9 II also supports HDMI connectivity to the following recorders: Atomos Ninja V, Ninja V+, Ninja, Ninja Ultra, Shogun, Shogun Ultra and Shogun Connect. As with BRAW, Panasonic notes that editing recorded RAW video requires software that supports Apple ProRes RAW.

In addition to the updated features , a LUT specifically designed for RAW video is available on Panasonic’s customer support website , which allows RAW frames to be sorted by color as V-Log and V-Gamut.

So far, Panasonic has not specified the date of availability of the corresponding firmware update. The new software is under development, but in the future the ability to record video in RAW formats could become one of the serious advantages of the Panasonic Lumix G9 II camera.

The second generation camera Panasonic Lumix G9 II was introduced in September 2023. The Panasonic Lumix G9 II features a new 25.2-megapixel MOS sensor, phase-detection autofocus and the latest image processing engine.

Lumix G9 II will receive an improved matrix stabilization system (IBIS). This kind of system has always been one of the strengths of Panasonic cameras. The stabilization efficiency will be 8.0 exposure stops. Dual IS2 stabilization will be available, which works in conjunction with the optical stabilization in Panasonic lenses for the M4/3 system.
