New Yongnuo 50mm F1.8 autofocus lens unveiled for Fujifilm X-mount

New Yongnuo 50mm F1.8 autofocus lens for X-mount

Shenzhen Yongnuo Photographic Equipment Co., Ltd. introduced an inexpensive Yongnuo YN50mm 1.8X DSM Pro lens for the Fujifilm X mount. In addition to autofocus, the lens received a small OLED display. The price is $265.

The lens has only one focus ring, which many photographers and videographers consider to be a significant drawback in terms of workflow. But this ring can control both focus and aperture, which is done by the “SW” mode switch on the side of the lens. And in “I” mode, the ring on the lens can be used for manual focusing. When set to “II”, it switches to iris control. It may be an interesting idea, but it’s not clear if Fujifilm users will like it.

The second notable feature is the aforementioned OLED display, which shows the current aperture values. This is the second Chinese lens to have some sort of digital “window” at the top of the lens (the first appeared on the new Viltrox AF 16mm F1.8 lens ), and although this information is usually redundant for many modern cameras, for some it can needed to quickly check aperture readings at a glance, since not all Fujifilm cameras have a top display. But it should be noted that it shows significantly less information than Viltrox.

The optical design consists of 11 elements in eight groups. There is a nano-layer coating to improve light transmission and suppress reflections and glare.

The minimum aperture of F1.8 will allow you to get not only soft bokeh, but also shoot in low light conditions. Autofocus is driven by a quiet and fast stepping motor. Apparently, the lens does not have optical image stabilization.

The body is made of aluminum alloy, it is anodized with a matte finish. The bayonet has a dust and waterproof rubber seal. Contacts are gold-plated. There is a USB Type-C interface for firmware updates.

Yongnuo says “The lens is compatible with X-H2S, X-H2, X-Pro3, X-T5, X-T4, X-T3, S-S20, X-S10, X-T30 II, X-T200, X-E4 and other X- mount cameras .
