Magnetar UDP800: Ultra HD Blu-ray player in the Archisoft range

Magnetar UDP800

After a rather long break from the moment OPPO and Pioneer left the scene in this segment of equipment, interrupted by the appearance of two models from Reavon , now the ultimate disk video players have fallen like a cornucopia.

Most recently, we talked  about the presentation of the German Ultra HD Blu-ray player Block HD-120. Less than a month later, another similar device saw the light. The European brand Magnetar introduced the UDP800 Ultra HD Blu-ray player . The intrigue is enhanced by the fact that the brand belongs to the French holding Archisoft , which includes brands such as Zappiti and the above-mentioned Reavon.

The novelty is based on the well-known MediaTek MT8581 chipset, which was used not only in models from Block and Reavon, but also in the latest generation of OPPO players. The audio part is implemented on Burr Brown PCM1795 DAC chips and Muses 8920 operational amplifiers. Solid shielding of the disk transport and power supply draws attention, which should minimize electromagnetic interference to the audio part.

In addition to Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, the Magnetar UDP800 is ready to play 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD. Audio formats include SACD, CD and DVD-Audio. The manufacturer declares support for video with extended dynamic range Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks are supported.

The Magnetar UDP800 UHD player is equipped with two HDMI outputs for separate audio streaming. The analog outputs are stereo only – balanced on XLR and unbalanced on RCA. There are also digital audio outputs – coaxial S / PDIF and optical Toslink. Two USB-A version 3.0 ports (one located on the front of the player) allow you to connect external drives. For integration into a home computer network, a gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port is provided.

As with models from Block and Reavon, there is no information yet regarding the ability to play back over the network and from external drives Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray disc images – both in files and in the directory structure.

The Magnetar UDP800 UHD player is already on sale for €1,699 . Recall that the Block HD-120 player will cost 100 euros more.
