Yamaha recalls HDMI 2.1 AV receivers

Sound United, the owner of the Denon and Marantz brands, also faced the problem of HDMI 2.1 support in their receivers and found no choice but to offer an external adapter for affected customers.

Yamaha has taken a more radical path and announced the replacement of the HDMI 2.1 board in the RX-A2A, RX-V6A and RX-V4A receivers.

“A free campaign to upgrade the HDMI board to solve the problem of receiving a 4K / 120Hz signal in these AV receivers will begin in the fall of 2021,” the company said.

The promotion will last 24 months, with detailed instructions for consumers to be announced this summer.

The company also added that the new HDMI card is only required if you plan to connect an Xbox Series X console or device with an Nvidia RTX30 graphics card for 4K / 120Hz transmission through the AV receiver. However, we advise you to ignore this instruction. The point is that the problem lies not in the external equipment, but in the AV-receivers themselves, or rather, in the HDMI cards. If they are not replaced, problems may arise when connecting them to completely different devices in the future.

Yamaha also added that the issue with defective boards does not affect the second generation of HDMI 2.1 AV receivers announced recently. These are the RX-A4A, RX-A6A and RX-A8A models.
