FiiO CP13: New portable cassette player unveiled

FiiO CP13

Chinese manufacturer FiiO has announced a portable cassette player that is rumored to go on sale before New Year’s Eve. The new cassette player is called CP13 and the device is clearly inspired by the first cassette player from Japanese Sony, which was presented as Walkman more than forty years ago. Technical details are still somewhat sparse, but we would like to share the available information with our readers.

We don’t know much about the CP13 from the Chinese FiiO yet, except that the CP13 will probably be available in two colors, namely classic blue (a nod to the classic Sony Walkman, picture here) and a version in white and black.

How the Classic walkman from Sony looked back in the day.

Fiio CP13 looks awesome!

The FiiO CP13 has a USB-C connection, which is only used as a charging port. Charging batteries is of course better than periodically installing two new AA batteries as was common in the past. The USB port does not seem suitable for connecting to a computer to digitize and archive old recordings, for example.

FiiO CP13 has large buttons by today’s standards. In addition, there is also an LED that indicates the status and of course a headphone connection. The volume control is done with a rotary knob in the shape of a potentiometer.

It appears the CP13 won’t have Bluetooth connectivity, but that shouldn’t bother the Walkman enthusiast and user.
