The German-made Dual Primus Maximus LP player is positioned as a limited edition reference model. In total, the company is going to make 100 copies.
According to Dual, the Primus Maximus is the epitome of the best technology that has been used throughout the company’s history.
The turntable received a direct drive, double-cardan tonearm and spring clamping force. Comes with a preinstalled Ortofon Quintet Bronze cartridge.
The case of Primus Maximus was finished with natural wood veneer. The motor, platter and tonearm are attached to a 10mm aluminum plate. The top and bottom of the case are connected to minimize vibration.
The 2.7 kg aluminum platter was made from a single piece of metal using a sandblasted and eloxated surface finish. The weight of the disc matches the design of the motor to minimize vibration and detonation.
The base of the tonearm and both cardan elements are also made of aluminum. Ball bearings are used in combination with hardened steel spikes to ensure the tightest tolerances in the tonearm assembly over its lifetime. Downforce is controlled by a torsion spring.
The Primus Maximus drive is designed and manufactured in Germany. The design of the drive does not include fast start and high torque – as the company explained, these features do not fit with the high-end concept.
The model will be sold at an estimated price of $12.500.
