Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R: Titanium Limited Edition player

The N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition player is another DAP from Cayin, which can be considered a kind of “show of strength”. This portable device has received a DAC module in R-2R circuitry – Cayin R01. The player, like its standard version, has a Micro HDMI interface, which can accept an I2S signal from digital sources.

The R-2R DAC uses 96 ultra-precise low TCR thin film resistors in two channels. The FPGA is used for oversampling the 768 kHz DSP. As a result, the new product “understands” PCM resolution up to 32 bit / 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256.

The device runs Android 8.1 with a special DTA (Direct Transport Audio) mode that bypasses the Android SRC audio subsystem to avoid unnecessary noise and distortion. Everything is run by a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor with 4GB of RAM – there is also 64GB of internal storage on board. If it is not enough, there is a microSD slot that accepts cards up to 1 TB.

Information is displayed on an IPS display with a diagonal of 4.2 inches and a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. Wireless communication is represented by modules Wi-Fi and Bluetooth version 4.2 with support for LDAC, AAC and aptX.

Cable switching, in addition to connecting headphones, is also represented by a USB-C interface for working in USB-DAC mode from a PC or Mac. The same connector is used to charge the battery. The 5,900 mAh lithium-ion battery provides about half a day of operation and fast charging with the optional Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

Headphones to the N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition can be connected in balanced (4.4 mm) and unbalanced (3.5 mm) versions. If Android is not enough, the novelty can be controlled, for example, from a smartphone using the HiByLink Smartphone Control software. Streaming, player functions, etc. depend only on the installed applications.

The titanium body of the player is milled from a monolithic blank on CNC machines and sandblasted for a special surface texture with a matte sheen. External controls – buttons and volume encoder – are made of PVD gold-plated brass. The player measures 121x70x21 mm and weighs 349 g. The limited edition is limited to 600 copies.

In Europe, the Cayin N6ii-Ti R-2R Titanium Limited Edition will cost 2,000 euros. The Cayin R01 R-2R DAC board can be purchased separately for € 700.
