This accessory from Razer should make gaming on a smartphone more enjoyable

For those who are used to gaming on consoles or who are simply looking for a nicer way of gaming on their smartphone, an accessory like the Kishi from Razer is a very interesting product. This type of controllers click onto either side of your smartphone or tablet, allowing it to be used as a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. With the Razer Kishi Ultra, this product line is no longer only available for Android phones, but also on the iPhone 15 . This is possible thanks to the USB-C port that Apple has been installing since this model. An updated version of the Kishi V2 has been released, which can also work with the iPhone 15.

Razer Kishi Ultra: differences with Kishi V2 (Pro)

The Razer Kishi Ultra is designed to work with as many devices as possible. Almost all Android phones should work seamlessly, provided they have at least Android 12. You can also clamp smaller Android tablets (up to 8 inches) into the controller. The new iPhone 15 series and all iPad Minis with a USB-C port should also work when connected without any problems.

The design has been significantly improved compared to the previous Kishi V2 (Pro). For example, the Kishi Ultra has significantly larger handles and a more extensive set of buttons. The d-pad can now move in eight directions instead of four. Also important: the triggers now use Hall effect sensors. This means they should last longer and work more accurately. Some buttons can also be configured to perform a variety of functions. Combined with the improved ergonomics and more durable buttons, this should deliver an experience that should rival a full console controller.

Razer Kishi Ultra also works with PCs and larger tablets

Conveniently, you can use Razer Kishi Ultra not only with mobile devices, but also connect to PCs or larger tablets. Simply use a USB-C cable for this. Just like when using a mobile device, you can experience haptic feedback (vibration effects) in that combination; You can loop sound through an aux port on the controller.

If the phone runs out of power during a gaming session, it is also possible to charge the phone up to 15 watts via USB-C passthrough. The updated design should make it possible to use the controller with most common phone cases. This allows you to connect the controller without any hassle and your phone remains well protected.

Software and other features

For a seamless gaming experience, Razer recommends its own Nexus app. This app can be used without a subscription and gives the user access to thousands of games that support controllers. It is also easy to record and share gameplay via the app. You can also adjust the lighting of the controller as desired. This also applies to other institutions; However, it is currently not possible to adjust the vibration effects and lighting under iOS.

Razer Kishi V2 update

In addition to announcing the all-new Kishi Ultra, Razer is also updating the Kishi V2. This so-called Kishi V2 USB-C is therefore also compatible with the iPhone and also receives some other hardware improvements. The triggers are also made analog and some buttons can be reprogrammed.
