As part of a special launch event in October, Apple officially unveiled the next generation of MacBook Pro laptops—also the first to be powered by the industry-leading 3nm M3-series processor. The 2023 models do not receive significant changes in appearance, with the exception of the introduction of a Space Black color option. What’s on the inside: Another fantastic leap in performance and graphics, with the entry-level MacBook Pro now featuring a base M3 chip and just 8GB of RAM, a feature that previously only separated the cheaper MacBook Air and Mac mini.
More cores, more memory, better battery life and Space Black – laptops have become many times better, but there are nuances.
The latest MacBook Pro comes with three processors, starting from M3, and in the same sizes – display diagonals are 14.2 inches and 16 inches. Apple says the 14-inch MacBook Pro on M3 is 40% more powerful than its predecessor, the 13-inch MacBook Pro on M2, while the M3 Pro is 20% more powerful than last year’s M2 Pro. Meanwhile, the M3 Max is 2x faster than the M2 Max. The graphics accelerator in the M3 series includes technologies such as dynamic caching (only the necessary amount of local memory is allocated for each task), mesh shading for more efficient processing of 3D scene geometry, and hardware ray tracing.
The main innovations of the MacBook Pro 2023:
- redesigned internal design for more optimal heat distribution under active loads;
- enhanced Liquid Retina XDR display, 600 nits standard brightness (SDR mode), 1000 nits (full screen XDR brightness), 1600 nits maximum brightness (for HDR content);
- from 8 to 16 computing cores;
- from 10 to 40 graphics cores;
- from 8 GB to 128 GB of unified memory;
- from 512 GB to 8 TB of SSD memory;
- up to 22 hours of battery life;
- Space Black version in M2 Pro and M2 Max models.
- one cooling cooler (instead of two), 100 GB/s throughput and two USB-C 4 Thunderbolt ports on the base M3 model.
You can already order new MacBook Pros from the Apple online store and the Apple Store app. Deliveries to customers will begin on November 7. Starting prices are $1,599 (14.2-inch M3), $1,999 (14.2-inch M3 Pro) and $2,499 (16-inch M3 Max).
