The Tesla Model Y electric crossover is gradually losing its former popularity, and the restyling carried out at the beginning of the year has not yet been able to rectify the situation. However, Tesla is expanding the range of modifications: an extended L-version with three rows of seats was recently presented in China, and now the “hot” top-end Performance version has debuted in Europe. Let us recall that the production of Model Y SUVs for the local market is carried out at the Tesla gigafactory in Germany.

On the outside, the Tesla Model Y Performance, as before the restyling, differs from the younger modifications only in strokes. A slightly more aggressive plumage with enlarged air intakes in the bumper, a carbon fiber spoiler and a neat diffuser is installed. The traditional Performance version logo flaunts on the trunk lid. The image is crowned by black wheels with a diameter of 21 inches (for younger versions, a maximum of 20 inches), through which large brake mechanisms are visible.

In the cabin, the main difference from less powerful modifications is the front seats with integrated headrests and enhanced lateral support. At the same time, the seats are equipped with heating, ventilation and electric drive. Carbon fiber trim is used in the cabin trim, and the standard package of the Performance version includes an advanced audio system with fifteen speakers and a subwoofer. A larger media system screen is also installed (16 inches instead of 15.4).

Of course, the Tesla Model Y Performance is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive. And although Tesla prefers not to advertise the engine output, this data can still be “dug up” on the company’s German website. The front electric motor of the Performance version is the same as that of the regular all-wheel drive version (215 hp), but the rear one has its own engine with a capacity of 412 hp (instead of 299 hp of the other modifications). The peak power of the system is 627 hp, while the pre-restyling Performance version for Europe had 534 hp. Such an electric car with a curb weight of 2108 kg can accelerate to “hundreds” in 3.5 seconds versus 3.7 seconds for the pre-reform car. The maximum speed is traditionally limited to 250 km/h.

In addition to the increased output, the Model Y Performance differs from its regular counterparts in its retuned suspension with adaptive shock absorbers. New driving modes are also announced, including a preset with an emphasis on the rear axle for more exciting cornering. The declared range according to the WLTP cycle is 580 km versus 586 km for the regular all-wheel drive Long Range AWD version: they have the same traction battery with a capacity of 79 kWh. Using the proprietary Supercharger terminal, you can restore the charge for 243 km of travel in 15 minutes.

The updated Tesla Model Y Performance crossover can already be ordered in Europe and the Middle East. In Germany, it costs 62 thousand euros, which is 9,000 more expensive than the Long Range AWD version. At the same time, the Performance modification has not yet appeared in the company’s American range.
