As reported the Korean edition of The Elec, in order to reduce dependence on Chinese panel makers such as BOE and CSoT, Samsung Electronics will increase its purchases of panels from other companies, including its main competitors in the face of LG Display.

Sounds unusual, but back in 2017, Bloomberg reported that Samsung was forced to turn to LG for help due to a shortage of LCD panels. As a result, several Samsung TVs, including the 2021 Neo QLED models, are now equipped with IPS panels, rather than the VAs that were previously found in Samsung TVs.

Now Samsung intends to increase purchases, but the data on their quantity varies greatly. According to The Elec, the company expects to buy about 4 million LCD panels, while analyst agency Omdia expects about 1 million panels to be shipped, which is only 2% of the total 44-45 million LCD TVs that Samsung intends to supply. produce next year.

The fact that Samsung plans to buy OLED panels from LG was also reported by news agencies in the spring, and now The Elec has given more details on this matter. According to this publication, Samsung will release about 2 million OLED TVs next year.

Moreover, only 500,000 of them will allegedly be built on its own QD-OLED panels, developed by Samsung Display, and the remaining 1.5 million panels will be supplied by LG – and these will be the usual W-OLED matrices without quantum dots. How Samsung will position TVs based on them is unknown.
