Later this month, LG will begin selling the unusual, one-of-a-kind StanbyME Go TV in the US for $999.99. It’s a 27-inch 1080p LCD TV housed in a large suitcase with a built-in battery and four speakers with a total output of 20 watts. The novelty supports AirPlay, screen mirroring compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and voice control.
LG’s idea is to make the TV the go-to companion for a picnic, family outing or sporting event. The possibilities are only limited by the owner’s imagination and the StanbyME Go’s three-hour battery life. According to a press release from LG, the new display “can be rotated, tilted, and rotated in landscape, portrait, and desktop mode . ”
The TV runs LG’s webOS software, so the customer gets the usual set of streaming apps. The TV can be controlled using the touch screen, the included remote control, which has its own place in the suitcase, or by voice.
In the absence of a signal source, StanbyME Go can offer eight ambient themes, such as “cozy crackling fireplace” or “beach scene with the sound of crashing waves.”
LG plans to sell its “TV-in-a-suitcase” exclusively through its own website, with the first orders shipped to customers as early as the end of August. For those who pre-order, the company promises to add the Xboom 360 Bluetooth speaker as a free bonus, which usually costs $249.
