Google Chrome for Android will soon get a built-in TTS (Text to Speech) “Listen to this page” feature. It will be available in the browser menu, and launching it will activate a mini-player with play/pause and rewind buttons, as well as a playbar and web page title. The player can adjust the listening speed (0.5, 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.5, 2, 3 and 4).

On the right there are several buttons that allow you to turn “Text Highlight and Auto Scroll” on or off, as well as select a different voice. If the user opens another tab, the player remains pinned, and if the device is locked, playback will continue. When you close your browser and return to the Home screen, the Listen to This Page feature is interrupted.

According to 9To5Google, Chrome 120 for Android introduced an experimental Read Aloud feature (chrome://flags/#read-aloud). It must be activated to get the “Listen to this page” feature for Chrome 121 beta.
