The trend towards active wireless speaker systems being released by traditional speaker manufacturers is gaining momentum. By introducing the Duetto model , Italian audio legend Sonus Faber joined the trend . Sonus Faber Duetto speaker systems give classic bookshelf speakers the ability to stream music via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The Duetto uses Sonus Faber’s signature lute-shaped wooden cabinets, but the specially designed heatsinks on the rear panel hint that these are no ordinary speakers. The speaker systems are implemented in a two-way concept with a 0.7-inch silk dome tweeter and a 5.25-inch midrange driver with a paper pulp cone. The driver is housed in Sonus Faber’s new “organic basket”, which has been designed to reduce vibration and facilitate the airflow generated by the speaker.
Each speaker has two amplifiers – the tweeter is served by a 100 Watt amplifier operating in class A/B, and the mid-range driver is powered by a 205 W class D amplifier – hence the impressive radiators on the rear.
On the top wall of one of the speakers of the pair there is a Senso touch panel, through which you can control the volume, select the active input and make other settings. You can also use the Sonus Faber proprietary application for mobile gadgets for control.
The Sonus Faber Duetto’s switching arsenal includes an HDMI ARC port, an optical digital input and a pair of RCA connectors, the purpose of which can be selected – this can be a linear analog input, or a phono input for working with moving magnet (MM) heads. There is also an analog output for an active subwoofer.
Sonus Faber Duetto is equipped with advanced streaming capabilities, including AirPlay, Chromecast, Roon, TIdal and Spotify. There is also Bluetooth for direct wireless streaming of music from portable gadgets. To minimize signal transmission delay and ensure a reliable and stable wireless connection between speakers, Duetto uses UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology.
“ Duetto is a true Sonus Faber stereo system , combining 40 years of premium speaker design, Italian style and materials with modern technology and streaming capabilities ,” said Sonus Faber Head of Design Livio Cucuzza .
Sonus Faber Duetto wireless speakers are available in walnut or graphite wood veneers. The new product will go on sale in Europe in November 2023 at a recommended retail price of 3,999 euros per pair of speakers. Branded racks will add another 749 euros to this price.
