Dynaudio Confidence 20A: Active Flagship Speakers with Integrated Amplification and Professional Audio Technology

Danish loudspeaker manufacturer Dynaudio has launched the Confidence 20A, an active variant of its two-way flagship model, the Confidence 20. The company characterizes the Confidence 20A as a logical progression in its active loudspeaker lineup, incorporating features from its Focus XD, XEO, and Professional Series into a sophisticated, high-end offering. Customers have the option to select from two different models.

Dynaudio describes the Confidence 20A as a Confidence 20 model that incorporates integrated amplification, utilizing technology sourced from its professional audio division. The amplifier, created in collaboration with Pascal, provides 400 watts to the woofer and 150 watts to the tweeter, ensuring a wide dynamic range and seamless power output.

The electronic components for each speaker are not situated within the cabinet; instead, they are integrated into the custom stands, which also function as heat sinks. Consequently, these stands are essential to the overall design of the speakers. Located on the rear of the stands are controls for input sensitivity, tonal balance, SRC, room position compensation, and LED brightness. Additionally, there are input connections for music signals, offering options for both analogue XLR and digital AES3 XLR. An AES3 XLR output is also provided for looping purposes.

Dynaudio specifies a frequency response range of 33Hz to 25kHz (+/-3dB) for the Confidence 20A, enabling these compact speakers to deliver impressive bass performance. Users have the flexibility to modify settings through digital AES3 left/right controls, sample-rate conversion, sound balance, analogue sensitivity, and EQ adjustments, accommodating various placements such as freestanding, wall-mounted, or in corners.

The Confidence 20A, similar to the Contour 20 Black Edition, is equipped with a 28mm Esotar 3 tweeter and an 18cm NeoTec MSP woofer that utilizes a neodymium magnet, complemented by a dual-flared rear port design. Its cabinet showcases a black front baffle along with matching driver rings, which contribute to the speaker’s elegant and high-end appearance.

Moreover, users now have the option to select between a passive and an active version of the Confidence 20. For those who appreciate minimalist aesthetics, opting for the active version eliminates the need to search for a compatible amplifier.

The Confidence 20A is available in two color options, with a recommended retail price of $20,000 for each pair.
