Yongnuo has announced the release of a new lens with support for the autofocus system – YN 35mm F/2 Z DF DSM for full-frame cameras with Canon RF mount. The new product sells for $375.

The lens turned out to be quite compact – together with the Canon EOS R camera it looks like this:

It is noteworthy that previously, third-party manufacturers almost never produced optics with an autofocus system for cameras with a Canon RF bayonet mount. This could lead to legal costs.

The optical design of the Yongnuo YN 35mm F/2 R DF DSM lens consists of 9 elements in 8 groups, including 1 aspherical lens, 1 low dispersion glass lens and 2 high refractive index glass lenses. There is a multi-layer anti-reflective coating to increase light transmission and suppress glare and ghosting.

The lens aperture mechanism consists of 7 blades. It allows you to adjust the relative aperture in the range from F/2 to F/16, according to the manufacturer, Yongnuo. And the minimum focusing distance of the lens is 35 cm (with a magnification of 0.13x). Changing focus modes is possible using the AF/MF button switch on the lens body.

Autofocus is achieved through a digitally controlled stepper motor (DSM), which provides high focusing accuracy and speed, and also has low noise levels, the manufacturer claims.

The Yongnuo YN 35mm F/2 R DF DSM lens is equipped with a multi-function ring: you can manually adjust the focus, as well as control the aperture and parameters such as shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and others.

In addition to this, there is an Fn button on the body of the new product, which can also be assigned to call up various camera functions.

The YN 35mm F/2 Z DF DSM lens body is made of aluminum, the mount is also made of metal, and the electronic part (contacts) is gold-plated.

The lens has threads for installing Ø52 mm filters, and there are o-rings in the bayonet area that prevent the penetration of moisture and dust between the lens and the camera body. There is also a USB-C port for firmware updates. Weight and dimensions are as follows: 290 grams, dimensions – Ø68×73 mm.

The package contents of the new YN 35mm F/2 Z DF DSM lens for Canon RF are as follows:

The price of the Yongnuo YN 35mm F/2 R DF DSM lens for Canon RF will be $375.

Previously, the same lens was available for Nikon Z and Sony E cameras.

It was also reported that Zhongyi will introduce autofocus optics. The focal length of the lens will be from 35 to 85mm, but so far there is no official confirmation of the characteristics and capabilities of the future new product. Perhaps the lens will belong to the Mitakon line.
