Canon is preparing to introduce a new telezoom lens for the RF-mount system – the Canon RF 200-800mm F/6.3-9 IS. The cost of the lens will be about $2,000 .

Despite the obviously weak aperture of both potential new products, there is a chance that Canon will be able to present truly compact optics. Although, of course, the very decision to release the Canon RF 200-800mm F/6.3-9 IS lens refers us to the previously presented compact telephoto lenses Canon RF 600mm F/11 IS STM, and RF 800mm F/11 IS STM, which were quite popular due to low price and light weight.

Canon decided to combine the advantages of similar lenses and give photographers and cinematographers additional zoom capabilities.

As an alternative, you can consider the previously released Canon RF 100-500mm F/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens, which, however, also did not have high aperture ratings.

Nikon, by the way, has a Nikkor Z 180-600mm F/5.6-6.3 VR lens (announced in the summer of 2023). The new lens’ optical formula features 25 elements arranged in 17 groups, including six ED glass elements that help reduce chromatic aberration. The lens weighs 1955 grams, or 2140 grams with the included tripod foot.

It features an internal zoom mechanism, nine aperture blades, and two user programmable buttons. For ease of video shooting, the lens features a click-free control ring and focus breathing suppression during recording. Thanks to the stepper motor, silent autofocus is achieved.
