Sigma is preparing to introduce a new telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras: the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports. The expected new product will be presented on November 17 and will be released for Sony E and L-mount bayonet mounts.

The source has now revealed additional details about the new lens. Firstly, the lens will receive a completely new optical design (and will not be borrowed from a similar lens for SLR cameras from Sigma). At the same time, the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports lens is perfect for both photo and video shooting due to high-speed autofocus with HLA (High Response Linear Actuator), and the new “OS2” optical image stabilization system from Sigma.

The new lens from Sigma is also weather resistant. There will be Sony E-Mount and L-Mount models. It is reported that the Sigma 70-200mm F/2.8 DG DN OS Sports lens will have the following characteristics :

  • Full frame lens 70–200mm (105–300mm when mounted on cameras with APS-C matrices)
  • Viewing Angle: 34°-12°
  • Optical design: 20 elements in 15 groups (including 3 aspherical, 6 FLD and 2 SLD elements)
  • Image stabilization: OS2
  • HLA autofocus
  • Filter size: 77mm
  • Dimensions: 90.60 x 205 mm.
  • Weight: 1335 g (E mount), 1345 g (L mount)
  • For mounting Leica L and Sony E
  • Shipping will begin in December

There are quite a lot of buttons and control switches on the lens body. There is a switch for the aperture ring (click/non-click), two optical stabilization modes and stabilization off, focus range, focus mode (auto/manual), and C2, C1 and Off mode. There is also a programmable button towards the end of the lens.

The presentation is already planned and will be available at the following link:

Apparently, this lens will be one of the most advanced from Sigma for mirrorless cameras.

Previously , the Sigma 10-18mm F/2.8 DC DN ultra-wide-angle zoom lens   with autofocus and weighing 260 grams was announced. This lens is designed for cameras with APS-C matrices. Optically, the lens consists of 13 elements in 10 groups (3 FLD, 1 SLD and 4 aspherical elements), which is quite unusual for such a compact size.
