Panasonic (Japanese office only) announced the release of a new mirrorless MFT camera LUMIX DC-G100D . There are practically no innovations – the only thing we can note is the new viewfinder.

LUMIX DC-G100D, like its predecessor, is positioned by the manufacturer as an easy-to-use model for shooting high-resolution photos and videos, despite its small and lightweight body weighing about 346 g. It can be a good option not only for vloggers, but also for those , who wants to switch from shooting with a smartphone or, for example, decided to try a camera with interchangeable lenses for the first time.

The sensor is a 20.3-megapixel Live MOS without low-pass filters, which “provides high-quality images with high resolution and a more three-dimensional effect.”

High-quality video recording at up to 4K30p resolution, even handheld, thanks to 5-axis hybrid image stabilization. To record sound, the OZO Audio system developed by Nokia is used with the ability to select one of five directional modes and it is promised that even the built-in microphone (without using an external one) allows you to record high quality.

OLED viewfinder with approximately 2.36 million dot resolution, 0.74x magnification, nearly 100% field of view and virtually no time lag. The rotating 3-inch touchscreen LCD monitor with a resolution of 1.8 million dots is convenient for shooting any scene, including selfies.

The camera received a USB Type-C USB 2.0 port for charging from a power bank.

The DC-G100DW kit includes two lenses: LUMIX G VARIO 12-32mm F3.5-5.6 and 45-150mm F4.0-5.6

One of the standard kits now includes two lenses, a standard zoom and a telezoom. The vlogger package – DC-G100DV – includes a multifunctional tripod handle DMW-SHGR2.

The G100D is capable of converting RAW files to JPEG format with customization of various parameters (WB, brightness, saturation, etc.).

Focusing remains sharp, the manufacturer promises an autofocus speed of about 0.07 with effective subject tracking. The camera is equipped with DFD technology (spatial recognition). There are various AF settings: sensitivity, face/eye tracking, when shooting a starry sky, low light, etc. The camera provides photography with maximum resolution at a speed of 6 fps with subject tracking. There is a 4K photo mode.

Prices and sales

Sales will begin on January 26, 2024, prices have not yet been announced, but they are unlikely to be higher than the current quite good G100 , which, complete with a 12-32 lens and a handle, was sold at the start for $750, and now for $500. Another thing is that the “new” G100D is unlikely to go on sale outside Japan. However, you definitely shouldn’t regret this – the updates are too insignificant. So, if you want a vlogger camera from Panasonic, it’s better to wait for a real update of the model, which is definitely not far off – the company is unlikely to want to cede its market share to Sony in this still quite popular segment.
