DJI Ronin 4D Flex Cable System and ProRes RAW Support

DJI Ronin 4D Flex
DJI Ronin 4D Flex

DJI introduced 4D Flex , a tether system for the DJI Ronin 4D camera that allows the stabilized Zenmuse X9 sensor head to be used outside of the camera body, so it can be used for handheld shooting as the camera itself weighs over 5kg while the sensor head separately weighs 1.8 kg. In addition, the ProRes RAW codec will again be available for Ronin 4D, but only as a paid license. The 4D Flex system is $929 and the ProRes RAW license is $979.

The Zenmuse X9 sensor head connects to the camera body with a 2m coaxial cable and supports lossless video transmission up to 8K resolution.

DJI Ronin 4D Flex Cable System

The Ronin 4D Flex system is compatible with the Ronin 4D handgrips and main motor, as well as LiDAR focusing and stabilizing head. DJI says that switching between the Ronin 4D Flex and the basic configuration is quick and without the need for special tools. Locking the pan axis makes it possible to use heavier telephoto lenses with the Zenmuse X9.

Apple ProRes RAW

Support for the ProRes RAW codec was originally integrated into the Ronin 4D camera, but the company had to remove this codec and reduce the price of the camera, this was probably due to licensing disputes between the companies. Ronin 4D users will now be able to use ProRes RAW again, but as a paid camera license upgrade.

And prices?

DJI Ronin 4D Flex – $929, for this price customers will get the Ronin 4D Flex, pan axis lock, two Ronin 4D grip adapters, and two grip adapter cables. The DJI Follow Focus and DJI Ronin 4D add-on board with SDI/XLR/TC ports are planned for the future.

Licensed ProRes RAW Firmware Update – $979.
