Following the Sony ZV-1 II blogging camera , the main competitor also introduced its entry-level camera – we meet Canon EOS R100 , which is quite suitable for both beginners and, possibly, novice bloggers. Of course, Sony introduced the compact, while the EOS R100 is a 24-megapixel APS-C mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses with RF mount, the novelty has become the most affordable RF mount camera in Canon’s lineup. Priced at $480 for the body, $600 for the RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM kit and $830 for the dual lens kit, this kit will add the RF-S 55-210mm F5 to the 18-45mm -7.1 IS STM.

How did the company manage to reduce the price so significantly? The solution is EOS M50 Mark II , from which a 24 megapixel matrix and a Digic 8 processor were borrowed, as well as an LP-E17 battery. The screen in the camera is not rotary and not touch, SD UHS-I memory card. It is strange that the OLED electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million dots has survived. Of course, there is no stabilization on the IBIS matrix here, optical stabilization in the lenses will work normally. For some reason, nothing was said about electronic stabilization.

The shutter is mechanical, rear-curtain design, which reduced the photo rate to 3.5 fps with Servo AF and 6.5 fps with One-Shot AF. Marketers have once again focused on smartphone users, suggesting that they stop shooting with their favorite gadget and finally switch to more serious technology.

What does it take to lure smartphone users? That’s right, pumped automatic modes. The camera has Canon’s Intelligent Auto (A+) mode and various creative filters such as B&W, background blur, tilt-shift and so on. On the positive side, there is autofocus with eye detection and tracking of the face and body of a person. There will be a problem with animals, or rather, not with the animals themselves, but with automatic recognition of pets.

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF System autofocus works in the camera, but in the most requested mode, 4K Movie Servo AF, only contrast autofocus will work.

Canon EOS R100

4K 24p video with crop, as the matrix with the processor from the EOS M50 II. FullHD will be without crop, 60p speed with the possibility of vertical video. There is a “Hybrid Auto Mode” function – before taking a photo, the camera will shoot 2-4 seconds of video. The maximum video length is 29 minutes 59 seconds.

The RF mount will be a definite plus – the R100 is compatible with any lens in the line, both full-frame RF and lenses specially designed for APS-C cameras, RF-S. You can also install mirror optics using the Canon Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, but the control ring will not work in this case. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi interfaces are in place, like Micro HDMI Type-D, there is an input for connecting an external microphone, there is no headphone output. There is a built-in flash for taking photos.

Canon EOS R100

The camera size is 116 x 86 x 69 mm, weight is 356 g. The press release speaks briefly about the organization of live broadcasts – USB Video Class (UVC) is not supported, as well as charging and powering the camera via USB. Canon is not focusing on bloggers and aspiring content creators, the camera is positioned primarily as a family inexpensive camera for capturing unforgettable moments, and more photos than videos.
