Canon is preparing to release a new generation camera – Canon EOS R5 Mark II. The source reports that the new product will receive a QPAF (Quad Pixel AF) autofocus system developed by Canon. It will provide an increase in the capabilities of the automatic focusing system, its smoothness and accuracy.

However, the question remains: will Canon actually introduce the new flagship technology into the Canon EOS R5 Mark II, or will it be shown for the first time in the upcoming Canon EOS R1? The source says that Canon’s next camera will be announced in February 2024. What exactly this model will be has not yet been specified.

Quite a lot of information has already been reported on the Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera. For example, one of the sources published information about the matrix that this camera will receive. According to him, it will be a 60 megapixel sensor. In part, this information repeated information about early camera prototypes. At the same time, the source clarified that the Canon EOS R5 Mark II will have the ability to record 8K video at 60 fps or up to 120 fps when connecting an additional monitor-recorder via the HDMI port.

The new product may receive an improved cooling radiator, which will avoid overheating during prolonged work with high loads (for example, shooting 8K in RAW). The first generation model, the Canon EOS R5, encountered a similar problem. It was not possible to completely fix it, even with the help of numerous firmware updates.

Returning to autofocus. The camera can receive artificial intelligence functions in the autofocus system. However, what exactly they will consist of has not yet been revealed.

Back in the summer of 2023, it became known that the Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera was already being tested by Canon ambassadors. At the same time, many details about the camera were published for the first time, which turned out to be quite contradictory in comparison with previous leaks:

The source reported some technical specifications  of the Canon EOS R5 Mark II :

  1. 45MP  full frame BSI stacked CMOS sensor
  2. Second generation autofocus – Dual Pixel CMOS AF II (currently reported Quad Pixel AF)
  3. Five-axis image stabilization based on sensor shift (IBIS)
  4. Continuous shooting: 40 fps with electronic shutter, 12 fps with mechanical shutter
  5. Video recording  8K 60 fps RAW  and 4K 120 fps 10 bit – to a memory card
  6. 2-inch vari-angle LCD touch screen with 4.2 million dots resolution
  7. High resolution electronic viewfinder with 120 fps refresh rate
  8. Supports wired LAN and 5GHz Wi-Fi
  9. Multifunctional shoe

There is no information yet about the potential price of the new product at the start of sales (as well as the start date of sales).
