Rumor: Xiaomi will abandon MIUI in a couple of months

XIAOMI WILL ABANDON MIUI IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS
XIAOMI WILL ABANDON MIUI IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS

Mentions of a certain MIOS firmware from Xiaomi have been appearing on the Internet for a long time – they first started talking about it back in 2013, but now, in 2023, the rumors have been revived (albeit indirect).

In March, a screenshot of the “About the System” screen with the supposed MIOS logo appeared, at the end of summer the company registered the corresponding trademark and domain on the Internet, and now new information (apparently related to MIOS) was leaked by the famous Chinese insider Digital Chat Station.

The release of the new firmware is expected at the end of 2023 along with the Xiaomi 14 series - apparently, it will not be MIUI 15

The release of the new firmware is expected at the end of 2023 along with the Xiaomi 14 series – apparently, it will not be MIUI 15

According to his post on Weibo, MIUI 14 will be the last major firmware update from Xiaomi – that is, not MIUI 15, but something completely different (or with a different name) will debut at the end of the year. He didn’t spill any other details, but other than MIOS, the Chinese company doesn’t have anything (at least not publicly known).

What MIOS is is unclear. The screenshot of the “About the System” screen that appeared in the spring shows that the system was available in an alpha build, that is, its development was far from complete.

According to the most reasonable assumptions, MIOS will become a fork of Android, following the example of Huawei’s HarmonyOS, while the design and features will migrate from MIUI.

The situation with Google services will most likely be similar. However, these are just guesses, and we shouldn’t rule out the possibility that MIUI will simply get a different name. Or that the rumors will turn out to be false.
