Nokia unveils XR21 indestructible smartphone

Nokia XR21

HMD Global, which owns the rights to release smartphones under the Nokia brand, first entered the rugged smartphone market in 2021 with the launch of the Nokia XR20 mid-range model. Now the company has announced a successor in the form of the Nokia XR21, which takes the same design approach as its predecessor.

The phone is made in a plastic case with an aluminum frame. At the same time, the smartphone has MIL-STD-810H certification, as well as IP69K protection class against water and dust. This standard represents a significant increase in protection compared to the common IP68, it allows devices to withstand high-pressure hot water jets. HMD Global claims that the Nokia XR21 is even capable of withstanding a pressure washer.

The display of the smartphone is covered with durable Gorilla Glass Victus, and the manufacturer offers a one-year free replacement warranty. Offer valid in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The company also claims that its new smartphone can withstand drops of up to 1.8 meters.

In terms of equipment, the Nokia XR21 is in line with typical mid-range Android mobile devices. The device is built on the Snapdragon 695 5G platform, has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of permanent memory.

The display has a diagonal of 6.49 inches and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The battery is not the largest (4800 mAh), but the manufacturer claims that the battery retains 80% capacity after 800 charge cycles, which is much better than the previous model. There is support for fast charging 33W, but the unit itself is not included.

New from HMD Global has an IP69K rating and military MIL-STD-810H, and also received a more powerful processor and faster charging
