Shanling UA1 Plus: Budget Dongle DAC Headphone Amplifier

Shanling UA1 Plus
Shanling UA1 Plus

Shanling has added a new addition to its UA line: the UA1 Plus USB DAC/AMP Dongle headphone DAC amplifier, which the manufacturer describes as “great sound in a compact package.” In a really compact (40 x 17.7 x 8.2 mm) aluminum case weighing less than 10 g, a Cirrus Logic CS43131 DAC was placed in a Dual DAC configuration.

And, according to the specifications of this chipset, the novelty copes with PCM signal resolution up to 32 bit/768 kHz and DSD256. At the same time, it saves up to 60% of energy in standby mode and up to 40% during playback, when compared with earlier models – which is important, because the dongle is powered by an audio signal source. And sources can be devices running Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and macOS.

A USB-C to USB-C cable is included, and a Lightning to USB-C adapter can be added as an option. For more complete control of the new product, you can use the Shanling Eddict proprietary application, however, only for Android. There is no iOS version yet.

At the output of the Shanling UA1 Plus USB DAC/AMP Dongle is capable of delivering a 1.6V peak-to-peak signal or about 80mW of power for 32 ohm headphones. Volume and playback controls are placed on the case. The signal type is indicated by a multicolor LED. In addition, a lace has been added to the kit, with which it will be harder to lose a small device.

The Shanling UA1 Plus USB DAC/AMP Dongle was priced at $50 in the US.
