MSB introduces I2S Input module for the brand's own DA converters

MSB has presented the  I2S Input module for the brand’s own DACs. According to MSB, it is the  best interface to transfer both DSD and PCM from products of other audio brands (such as the PS Audio SACD transports) via an HDMI I2S interface. The module will be available soon.

MSB I²S interface

Unlike most other I2S interfaces, this one includes a galvanic isolation barrier and software configuration. The Universal I2S Input is a powerful toolbox of software configurable blocks.

These can be configured to accept and take full advantage of virtually any I2S implementation. Each currently supported transport or server option is displayed in the menu of the DAC or Digital Director, with the most current additions available from the MSB website.

Supported sources :

• PS Audio I2S formats (and sources using this format)
• Antipodes servers with HDMI I2S outputs (info from Frank Vermeylen – Very Fine Solutions )

Advantages :

• Supports PCM and DSD from third-party transports and servers that support HDMI I2S
• Provides isolated Word Sync for clock feedback
• Provides the best isolation available in an HDMI I2S interface
• Supports sample rates up to DSD 8X and 768kHz PCM (source dependent)
• New configurations can be added via software updates

Limits :

• Limited isolation compared to Pro ISL fiber connection
• No error detection or correction
• Shorter cable runs
• Asynchronous (unless source supports Word Sync)
• Supports only 3.3V signaling and LVDS data channels
