ModalAkustik launches two-way MusikBoxx with an external crossover

Modal Acoustic Music Boxx

Pulheim-based ModalAkustik has launched a new two-way monitor speaker called MusikBoxx. The new MusikBoxx is quite different in appearance from the usual form of two-way monitor speakers. Perhaps even more remarkable is the optional external crossover.

ModalAkustik is a German loudspeaker manufacturer with a still small portfolio. The name ModalAkustik is derived from modal resonances, which every room has. These are peaks and troughs at certain frequencies, which depend on the size and nature of the room. The ModalAkustik MusikBass is a subwoofer that uses the RiPol principle. According to the manufacturer, the result is a tight, deep and clear bass response, which can upgrade almost any main speaker. The MusikBass subwoofer is now joined by the MusikBoxx, a two-way monitor speaker with special properties.

The MusikBoxx is a two-way speaker without crossover. The user can bi-amp and use DSP for crossover. ModalAkustik can also supply an external crossover called MusikCrss, packaged in a transparent enclosure equipped with Mundorf components and WBT connectors.

Featuring a slightly conical Dipole AMT tweeter from Mundorf, Accuton ceramic mid/bass driver from Thiel & Partner and a closed cabinet made of acrylic ribs reinforced in opposite directions with steel struts, the MusikBoxx comes with a matching stand in a resonance-optimized tripod design with little contact surface for sound waves that can be attached with spikes or absorber feet.

The MusikBoxx measures 220 millimeters without the tweeter (315 millimeters with tweeter), is 215 millimeters wide and 280 millimeters deep without the speaker connections. It weighs 7.9 kilograms and is priced at $4,900 per pair.

The MusikCrss external crossover measures 210 x 66 x 282 millimeters (W x H x D), weighs 3.4 kilograms and costs $2,300 per pair. The tripod stand is 727 millimeters high and costs $900 per pair.
