Cayin N8ii: Portable player with Korg Nutube triodes

Cayin N8ii
Cayin N8ii

Cayin N8ii is an audio player based on Android 9, which means that it will be possible to install a wide variety of applications on it. The interface is displayed on a 5-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The system provides DTA bypass Android SRC and, of course, Hi-Res playback.

Cayin bills the N8ii as “a digital device with reference level audio”, and for good reason. On board is a Dual ROHM BD34301EKV DAC that supports PCM resolutions up to 32bit/768kHz and DSD512. The device is controlled by a Snapdragon 660 microcontroller. RAM is 6 GB LPDDR4X. Built-in memory 128 GB can be supplemented with a card up to 1 TB.

The volume control is a high-quality JRC NJW1195A (4 channels), after which a fully discrete balanced tube amplifier based on two KORG Nutube 6P1 double triodes is installed at the output.

The circuit supports dual amplification mode (class A / class AB, optional). The output signal can also be selected: P (standard) or P+ (high power) mode. There are also two output connectors: unbalanced 3.5 mm and balanced 4.4 mm.

All this, including a 1000 mAh battery, is enclosed in an aluminum case, milled from a monolithic billet. The size of Cayin N8ii is 147 x 77.5 x 25 mm, and the weight is slightly less than 450 g.

The Cayin N8ii SRP DAC player costs $3,500.
