The Palma Audio DHS-1 can be used as closed-back or open-back headphones

Palma Audio DHS-1
Palma Audio DHS-1

The Palma DHS-1 is a revolutionary product, unique in its class, allowing the most demanding audiophiles to use two acoustic designs – open and closed – in one headphone. This is made possible by a purely mechanical system patented by Palma Audio. These full-size on-ear headphones use state-of-the-art drivers mounted in natural wood cups, designed to create a perfectly optimized acoustic space. Designed and hand-assembled in Spain, they combine high-quality materials and meticulous design to provide maximum sound quality, without the fatigue of listening in two modes of operation.

  Palma DHS-1 Over-Ear Headphones

The Palma DHS-1 over-ear headphones (DHS is an abbreviation for “Dual Headphone System”) allow the listener to choose between two sound experiences, each with its own personality depending on the type of music and the surrounding conditions. This is possible thanks to an extremely precise and reliable system.

The Palma DHS-1 earcups are made from sapele, a type of wood prized for its excellent acoustic qualities, used in the production of musical instruments. Thanks to its resistance to wear and easy precision machining, the DHS-1 earphones provide the dynamics with an optimal acoustic load, so that the frequency response is virtually flat in both open and closed modes of operation, ensuring maximum musicality at all times, regardless of the volume level. It uses broadband electrodynamic heads with a 50 mm diaphragm made of a mixture of pressed cellulose in its central part and an ultra-thin polyamide suspension ring.

To achieve the duality, the outer sides of the Palma DHS-1 earcups combine precisely calculated circular perforations – in the “golden ratio” – with a movable outer aluminum cover that acts as a shutter, thus achieving the freedom of open mode operation and the high level of isolation typical of closed headphones. The user only needs to rotate the outer covers of the shutters by 14 degrees, like the visor of a motorcycle helmet – back to switch from closed to open mode or vice versa to switch from open to closed mode. Reliability of switching modes of operation is guaranteed by a patented design.

The main distinctive features of the Palma DHS-1 over-ear headphones:

– Exceptional quality in both operating modes – earcups and speakers are integrated into an optimized acoustic system.

– Full-range speakers with 50mm diaphragm and 26mm voice coil – very high sound pressure level without distortion.

– Frequency response of 2–35,000 Hz in open mode and 10–30,000 Hz in closed mode – audiophile-grade sound in both operating modes.

– High sensitivity (107 dB/1 mW in open mode and 109 dB/1 mW in closed mode) and low resistance (32 Ohm) – wide compatibility with all types of mobile devices.

– The headband and ear cups are designed for maximum ergonomics – long listening without fatigue.

– Handcrafted from the highest quality components and materials – guaranteed performance and durability.

– Included with the headphones: a case with accessories, one cable with a 3.5 mm plug, one cable with a 6.3 mm plug and one balanced cable with a 4.4 mm jack, as well as an individual sheet with the measured frequency response for each operating mode – each copy of the Palma DHS-1 headphones is unique.
