In August, FiiO unveiled the first version of UTWS wireless modules, allowing any in-ear headphones with a detachable cable to be completely wireless.
The main difference is in power: FiiO UTWS3 outputs 38 mW per channel at 16 ohms, while UTWS1 outputs 14 mW. Due to this, the modules, according to FiiO, are ready to cope with even the most demanding fittings. Responsible for the increase in power is its own TPA6140A2 amplifier chip.
The FiiO UTWS3 is available in two versions: with MMCX connectors and with two-pin connectors. The earbuds attach to flexible earhooks, and they end in a relatively thick block with amplifiers, battery and controls. The section of the cable in the earhook is not easy – it is made of high purity monocrystalline silver-plated copper.
Of the UTWS3 codecs, they support AAC, SBC and aptX, and connect to sources via Bluetooth 5.0. The modules work individually based on the Qualcomm TWS + Dual Transmission feature – allegedly making the connection more stable due to this.
Each module has two microphones with noise cancellation during conversation. Circular pads on the modules are touchpads used to control playback and adjust volume. FiiO proudly drew attention to the sensitivity of the sensor – it distinguishes 26 degrees of pressure, regardless of the source.
The modules themselves are protected from sweat and moisture according to the IPX4 standard, so you can play sports in them and walk a little in the rain. You can use one of the applications to configure the modules: FiiO Music App or FiiO Control App.
The modules have enough batteries for seven hours of operation, and the complete case will allow them to recharge for another 30 hours. The case provides space not only for the modules themselves, but also for the headphones that are connected to them – however, not all models are suitable for this.
In Europe, FiiO UTWS3 modules will cost 80 euros.
