The creators of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl have abruptly ditched NFT content for the game. According to the representatives of the firm, they clearly heard the opinion of the audience and decided to agree with it.

Based on the response we received, we decided to cancel all NFT-related activities in STALKER 2. The interests of fans and players are a priority for our team. We make a game for your enjoyment – whatever the price. If you care about it, we care about it too, – the developers wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the gaming studio announced the STALKER’s Metaverse project, which will allow exchanging NFT items on the popular DMarket trading platform. It was assumed that users could receive tokens that would correspond to in-game items.

Fans of the popular post-apocalyptic franchise have expressed disappointment over the decision, stating that the idea of a non-fungible token is harmful to the environment due to the enormous amount of energy that goes into maintaining blockchain technology. Some critics have even accused GSC Game World, the developer of the upcoming STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl, of pursuing the trend in order to increase profits.
