MSI has launched a new feature known as X3D Gaming Mode, designed to enhance the gaming performance of AMD Ryzen processors equipped with 3D V-Cache. This development is in line with the recent release of ASEGA BIOS 1.2.0.2a for GIGABYTE (AORUS) and MSI motherboards, which optimizes the overall performance of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor.
The functionality of this new feature is similar to tools offered by other manufacturers, as it disables one CCD or SMT to boost frame rates in games. According to the developers, X3D Gaming Mode is particularly beneficial for models featuring two CCDs, such as the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and the forthcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, it is important to note that this feature remains advantageous for processors with a single CCD as well.

Journalists from WCC Ftech evaluated the beta version of the feature using a system equipped with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. Activating X3D Gaming Mode resulted in an increase in frames per second from 219 to 263 (approximately a 20% boost) in Far Cry 6 at 1080p on Ultra settings. In Shadow of The Tomb Raider, the performance saw a 10% improvement.
This new tool is currently supported on three motherboards: MEG X870E GODLIKE, MPG X870E Carbon Wi-Fi, and MAG X870 Tomahawk Wi-Fi. The rollout for additional models that will be compatible with X3D Gaming Mode is set to commence next week.
