WINDOWS 11 UPDATES SLOW DOWN SSD DRIVES

Active users of the Windows 11 operating system report problems with SSD drives. We first encountered it after installing the March cumulative update KB5023778. Numerous posts on thematic forums, the official Microsoft forum and social networks talk about a strong decrease in the speed of solid state drives.

The problem turned out to be widespread. It occurs when users perform storage-intensive tasks such as copying or transferring large files. It can also occur during gaming sessions.

The problem, despite the fact that more than three months have passed since its discovery, has not yet been resolved.

The problem, despite the fact that more than three months have passed since its discovery, has not yet been resolved.

Tests conducted using the CrystalDiskMark utility showed that the speed of an SSD can drop from 7000 MB / s to 3000 MB / s, and in some cases even up to 1000 MB / s. Users have noted that uninstalling updates released after March “Tuesday” restores the speed of SSDs.

The problem also occurs after installing the following updates:

  • Mandatory KB5025239 May 2023;
  • optional May 2023 KB5026372;
  • optional June 2023 KB5027231;
  • mandatory KB5027303 for June 2023.

According to the journalists of the thematic resource Neowin, the first update in July will not solve the current problem. Microsoft has yet to comment on the situation.
