Some AMD Ryzen 8000G processors slow down video cards

SOME AMD RYZEN 8000G PROCESSORS SLOW DOWN VIDEO CARDS AND AMD IS UNABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

The recently introduced AMD Ryzen 8000G series of processors was not without its shortcomings. And what’s most unpleasant in this situation is that the developers cannot fix the problem, because its cause lies in the technical characteristics of younger models, as reported by TechSpot.

The fact is that some models, namely those based on the Phoenix 2 crystal, have reduced support for the PCI-E 4.0 interface. Of course, this is not a problem, since in this case the developers strive to increase energy efficiency. However, the reduced number of lines can negatively affect modern video cards and solid-state drives.

The problem affected only processor models whose operation is based on the Phoenix 2 die set

The problem affected only processor models whose operation is based on the Phoenix 2 die set

This is confirmed by the technical characteristics of the B650E AORUS ELITE X AX ICE motherboard from Gigabyte. The Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G on the Phoenix 1 chip support PCIe 4.0 x8, while the Ryzen 5 8500G and Ryzen 3 8300G on the Phoenix 2 chip support PCIe 4.0 x4 only.

As a result, if you install Phoenix 2 processors into a finished system, the speed of modern SSD drives and graphics accelerators can be reduced by half. However, this shouldn’t be an issue for entry-level graphics cards, many of which only support 4 PCIe 4.0 lanes anyway.

In this case, when assembling a new system, users will have to take into account this unpleasant feature of the Ryzen 8000G series. But if they want to upgrade their existing PCs, they may have to make a choice in the direction of other processors.
