SAMSUNG ANNOUNCED THE CREATION OF GDDR7 VIDEO MEMORY WITH A SPEED OF 32 GB / S

The South Korean company Samsung announced the completion of the development of a new generation of video memory – GDDR7. For the foreseeable future, it will be seen in new GPUs that will get a significant performance boost over existing models.

The developers said that GDDR7 will provide speeds of 32 Gb / s, bandwidth of 1.5 TB / s using a 384-bit bus, which is 1.4 times higher than GDDR6 (1.1 TB / s). The increase in performance was made possible by using the Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM3) signaling method instead of the NRZ used in previous generations. PAM3 is capable of transmitting 50% more data than NRZ.

The increase in performance is provided by the use of a new data transfer technology called PAM3

GDDR7 power-saving technology, which optimizes the performance of video memory under heavy loads, has improved energy efficiency by 20%. A version of memory with a low operating voltage has been prepared for use in mobile video cards. For thermocouples, an epoxy molding compound (EMC) with high thermal conductivity will be used, reducing thermal resistance by up to 70%.

Samsung said that the new memory standard will be used in personal computers, workstations, laptops, game consoles and devices designed to work with artificial intelligence algorithms. Memory testing by manufacturers will begin this year, and its commercial implementation is scheduled for 2024.
