Gigabyte unveils a very strange low-profile video card

GIGABYTE INTRODUCED A VERY STRANGE LOW-PROFILE VIDEO CARD: IT WILL FIT EVEN IN A VERY COMPACT CASE
GIGABYTE INTRODUCED A VERY STRANGE LOW-PROFILE VIDEO CARD: IT WILL FIT EVEN IN A VERY COMPACT CASE

Major graphics card manufacturers have been releasing fairly niche low-profile solutions with one or two fans in the cooling system for many years, which were most often bought by enthusiasts for very compact builds of gaming or work PCs. Such video cards never became mass-produced, but Gigabyte decided to change this – the manufacturer released a rather strange low-profile RTX 4060 OC Low Profile model with three fans, which has the lowest performance among all RTX 4060 video cards, but at the same time has certain advantages.

To start with, the RTX 4060 OC Low Profile defaults to a power limit of 115W, which is much less than the default value – some overclocked RTX 4060s consume 220-260W of power at peak loads, so in this case the video card consumes at least twice smaller. At the same time, the manufacturer still equipped the video card with an 8-pin power connector, because it is impossible to transfer energy over PCIe in the required amount. And, accordingly, there was no need to cut power consumption in such a way, and hence performance, from the word at all – the user, if necessary, could do it himself.

Strange moments are also observed with a detailed study of the design of the video card – the RTX 4060 OC Low Profile with 8 GB of video memory boasts a thickness of only 40 mm, that is, it occupies two slots in the system, with a height of 69 mm and a length of 182 mm. Such a video card, without any doubt, can be placed in any compact case. The only problem is that the mounting height, which is necessary for installing a video card in a PC case, has a standard height, and because of this, an impressive metal plate sticks out of the graphics accelerator like a sail. Of course, there is no way to get rid of this, but still such a design can hardly be called familiar.

And although the video card is one of the most compact RTX 4060 on the market, and even with reduced power consumption, the manufacturer decided to overclock the GPU right from the factory by increasing the clock speed of the graphics core to 2475 MHz (that is, 15 MHz higher than the base frequencies). Moreover, the model received the most modern ports for connecting to a monitor or TV – two DisplayPort 1.4a and two HDMI 2.1a. In theory, this is enough to display a picture on a 4K monitor with a high refresh rate, but the video card is not capable of this with all the desire – the RTX 4060 is a model for 1080p or with a huge stretch for 1440p.
