Canon will introduce four fast lenses in 2024

Canon intends to continue to expand its line of lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras in 2024. It is reported that during this period the manufacturer will release four lenses with a fixed focal length – their characteristics are already known.

So, the company will present the following lenses :

  • Canon RF 14mm F/1.4L USM
  • Canon RF 24mm F/1.4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 28mm F/1.4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 35mm F/1.4L IS USM

All four lenses will be from Canon’s premium L line, and three of them will feature image stabilization. This is quite unusual for such a wide-angle lens. Typically, a stabilization system is added to telephoto lenses – at least this was the case in the line of lenses for SLR cameras (Canon EF).

Apparently, the manufacturer managed to reduce the dimensions of the optics due to the advantages of the Canon RF bayonet mount, and thus was able to add an image stabilization mechanism. Together with the in-camera matrix stabilization system (IBIS), which is found, for example, in the Canon EOS R5, three prime lenses will provide even more powerful stabilization. This way, the cameraman will potentially be able to shoot video handheld, or take longer exposure shots without using a tripod.

The price of all Canon L lenses will be quite high. The most budget lens of this class, the Canon RF 100mm F/2.8L Macro IS USM.

Most recently, the company announced a unique Canon RF 24-105mm F/2.8 L IS USM Z lens . Optically, the lens turned out to be quite complex – it consists of 23 elements. Of these: three aspherical elements, four ED elements, as well as several specialized coatings. The new Canon RF 24-105mm F/2.8 L IS USM Z lens also features a ring for smooth (no clicking) aperture control.

The optics are suitable for both photographers and videographers, photojournalists and content creators. The lens, as expected, turned out to be heavier and larger than the Canon RF 24-105mm F/4 (700 grams) and weighs 1330 grams. The cost of the lens will be $2,999 .
