Canon EOS R5 C certified by Netflix after firmware update

Last week, Canon updated the firmware for the Canon EOS R5 C to improve C-log 3 image quality when shooting in AVC or MP4 formats.

This update has made the Canon EOS R5 C certified for Netflix video production standards when shooting in XF-AVC (4K).

Why does Netflix have a special list of cameras?

“To help content producers create better work and compelling visuals for our audience, Netflix requires 90% of total timing to be filmed by its approved cameras. For non-fiction content, this threshold can be more flexible.

We actively partner with the creative community, camera manufacturers and world-renowned experts to validate cameras that create robust and flexible manufacturing capabilities. Approved cameras have been evaluated by Netflix technologists to make sure they meet benchmarks in terms of dynamic range, color reproduction, detail, noise, resolution and other requirements. These ratings help our partners understand that they are using the best and most appropriate camera when they shoot their stories for us.”
