REDMI continues to push aggressively into the affordable audio segment, and with the launch of the Buds 8, the Xiaomi sub-brand is clearly targeting features that normally belong in a much higher price class.
At first glance, these are just another pair of true wireless earbuds. But look closer, and the Buds 8 start to look like a serious disruption in the entry-level market.
Surprisingly serious audio hardware
At the core of the Buds 8 sits an 11 mm dynamic driver built around a multilayer composite diaphragm. While this is still a single-driver design, the material choice suggests improved rigidity and control, which typically translates into tighter bass, better transient response, and cleaner upper frequencies.
REDMI also claims a frequency response extending from 20 Hz to 40 kHz, putting the Buds 8 into “hi-res capable” territory on paper. More importantly, support for LHDC 5.0 alongside AAC and SBC is a rare inclusion at this price point. LHDC, in particular, allows for significantly higher data throughput than standard Bluetooth codecs, offering the potential for noticeably improved sound quality when paired with compatible devices.
Noise cancellation that punches above its class
Where the Buds 8 really stand out is in their active noise cancellation system. REDMI introduces what it calls a “Deep Space” ANC architecture, capable of reducing ambient noise by up to 50 dB across a 4 kHz bandwidth.
That figure alone places these earbuds in direct competition with models costing two to three times as much.
The system relies on a three-stage adaptive ANC algorithm that continuously analyzes the surrounding environment and adjusts its performance in real time. In practice, this should mean more effective suppression of everything from low-frequency rumble to mid-range environmental noise, without the overly aggressive pressure effect often found in cheaper ANC implementations.
Clear calls, even in challenging conditions
Call quality has also been given serious attention. Each earbud integrates a triple-microphone array supported by AI-driven noise reduction algorithms. REDMI claims the system can effectively suppress wind noise at speeds of up to 12 m/s, a scenario where many wireless earbuds typically struggle.
The result should be clearer voice transmission, even outdoors or in less-than-ideal conditions.
Battery life that keeps up with your day
Battery performance is another strong point. The Buds 8 deliver up to 11 hours of playback on a single charge with AAC and ANC disabled. With the charging case, total runtime extends to an impressive 44 hours.
Fast charging is also onboard. Just 10 minutes of charging provides up to four hours of listening time, making them easy to top up between uses.
Seamless ecosystem integration
For users within Xiaomi’s ecosystem, HyperConnect support enables fast pairing and effortless switching between devices. This kind of integration is becoming increasingly important, and REDMI ensures the Buds 8 fit neatly into that experience.
The real headline: the price
Perhaps the most striking aspect of the REDMI Buds 8 is not any single feature, but the combination of all of them at an extremely aggressive price.
At just $32 in China, REDMI is offering features like LHDC 5.0 and 50 dB ANC—capabilities typically reserved for earbuds in the $100+ category.
