Canor Audio introduces the Foundation Line with the Virtus I4S integrated amplifier and Verto D4S DAC, combining fully discrete circuits, modern touch controls, and serious hi-fi performance.

Glass fronts, touch control, and zero fluff signal paths — that’s the vibe of the new Foundation Line from Canor Audio. The Slovakia-based brand is clearly aiming to modernize its look and feel without ditching the engineering discipline it’s known for. First out of the gate are two boxes designed to play very nicely together: the Virtus I4S integrated amplifier and the Verto D4S DAC.

This isn’t about retro knobs or tube nostalgia. The Foundation Line feels like Canor saying: yes, we still care deeply about discrete circuitry — but we also live in 2026.

Foundation Line: modern hi-fi, minus the gimmicks

Both units share the same design language: glass, aluminium, steel, and a clean, architectural layout that looks more studio tool than living-room ornament. Touch controls are front and center, literally, but the real message is under the hood — fully discrete signal paths, no op-amps where they don’t belong, and sensible connectivity instead of feature bloat.

Think of it as price-aware high-end, not dumbed down entry-level.

Canor Verto D4S

The Verto D4S is a powerful digital-to-analog converter (DAC) featuring two ESS Sabre 9038 DAC chips in a dual-mono configuration for wide dynamic range and extremely low noise. The analog output stage is fully discrete. Canor engineers consistently dispense with operational amplifiers in the signal path.

The DAC offers a wide range of digital inputs, including USB, AES/EBU, coaxial, two optical inputs, and a TV input. In addition, one XLR and one RCA input each, along with corresponding balanced and unbalanced outputs, are available. This allows the Verto D4S to be flexibly integrated into a wide variety of circuits – from classic CD transports and streaming bridges to the living room television.

The Verto D4S processes PCM signals at sampling rates up to 768 kHz. DSD is supported both as DoP (DSD64/128/256) and natively up to DSD512. Eight selectable digital filters allow for customization to personal sound preferences.

A special feature is the 18-centimeter-wide, high-resolution color touchscreen spanning the entire front. It displays all operating parameters clearly and concisely, enabling extremely convenient, modern operation directly on the device.

For a clean power supply, a linear power supply with separate voltage regulators for the digital and analog sections ensures minimal mutual irradiation and stable operation.

Canor Audio Virtus I4S

The Virtus I4S is an elegant integrated transistor amplifier from the new Foundation Line, combining multiple functions in a single package. The Virtus I4S is an integrated amplifier with a phono amplifier and headphone amplifier under the hood. All amplifier stages operate in Class AB and are fully discrete.

The rated power is 2 x 75 watts into a speaker impedance of eight ohms (2 x 120 watts into four ohms). According to the manufacturers, this provides sufficient reserves, even for demanding speakers. An integrated phono amplifier is available for the turntable, suitable for both MM and MC cartridges, with switchable gain (40/46 dB for MM, 60/66 dB for MC).

The Virtus I4S user has two RCA inputs at his disposal: a balanced XLR input and a phono RCA input. A variable RCA output facilitates the integration of a subwoofer or an external power amplifier. A 6.35mm jack is mounted on the front for headphones.

The heart of the control panel is a round 45-millimeter touchscreen integrated into the central dial, providing quick access to all functions and settings. Specially developed heat sinks with heat pipe technology ensure stable operating temperatures. The aluminum, steel, and glass housing guarantees high mechanical stability, effective shielding, and defines the amplifier’s distinctive visual identity.
