With 5.2 channels, you can add front and rear speakers, left and right speakers, a center speaker, and up to two active subwoofers. This not only provides enveloping sound through the rear speakers, but also clear dialogue from a dedicated center speaker. Using two subwoofers provides a more even distribution of bass throughout the room, and also allows you to use smaller subwoofers to produce the same (or higher) bass.
