Roon Labs has rolled out its latest software update, version 2.0.28, which is available free of charge for existing paid subscribers. This update introduces direct access to TIDAL Max audio streaming, featuring 24-bit/192 kHz FLAC content.
Notably, TIDAL previously utilized the MQA format for high-quality audio until last summer when they announced support for FLAC, coinciding with significant challenges faced by MQA copyright holders. TIDAL Max now offers Hi-Res streaming in the open lossless FLAC format as part of TIDAL HiFi Plus.
Moreover, while access to the service was initially limited to the TIDAL application, it appears that TIDAL is now opening up opportunities for integration with third-party applications like Roon 2.0.28.
Additionally, this update reintroduces offline functionality, allowing the system to operate without internet access, enabling playback of content from local networks. Roon 2.0.28 is released as Roon 2.0 Build 1365 and Roon Server 2.0 Build 1365, with corresponding versions for Apple iOS and Google Android applications labeled as Roon 2.0 Build 1364.
For those considering a subscription, a monthly Roon subscription in the US is priced at $15.
