Pass Laboratories (Pass Labs) provided a sneak peek of its upcoming flagship preamplifier in early April. Although we do not have all the details about the new three-chassis preamplifier yet, additional information and photos are now accessible.
Pass Labs Xs Preamplifier 2

Pass Labs does not produce compact amplifiers. The smallest model in their lineup is still substantial and weighty. The company consistently outfits its amplifiers with large power supplies and ample cooling systems. This is essential because Pass Labs focuses on refining Class A topology.

The latest Xs Preamplifier 2 elevates audio performance to new heights, as stated by the manufacturer. This preamplifier features three distinct cabinets to ensure complete isolation of the signal circuits. Each channel is equipped with its own power supply board, boasting over 100,000 µF of capacitance for an unimpeded transient response. The noise floor has been further minimized compared to the already low-noise XP30, which also utilizes three cabinets. An enhanced circuit design and layout, along with new amplification stages that include auto-bias and DC compensation, all collaborate to deliver peak performance. Ultimately, the focus is on the sound; once you experience the Xs Preamplifier 2, returning to anything else is not an option, according to the enthusiastic designers.

As previously stated, each channel is equipped with its own power supply and circuit boards, featuring a dual-mono power supply that includes three double-shielded transformers. Additionally, the amplification circuitry is designed for higher bias, enhanced stability, and reduced noise, which leads to better resolution and dynamics. The input stage incorporates Toshiba FETs, while the output stage utilizes Toshiba MOSFETs.
Naturally, this preamplifier functions in Class A mode. The output stage is characterized by a higher Class A bias, an automatic bias system, and a lower output impedance, enabling it to effectively drive long cables and multiple power amplifiers.
