Austria-based Pro-Ject Audio Systems has announced the next generation Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2. In fact, it is the continuation of a product line of turntables that was introduced in the late 1990s. According to the manufacturer, the Debut Evo 2 combines affordability with audiophile qualities.

The Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 turntable replaces the Debut Carbon Evo and builds on elements of the superior Debut Pro design . The basics remain the same, but there are also improvements. Within its refined, minimalist industrial design, the Debut Evo 2 benefits from a new cartridge, updated tonearm design, a new platter and an improved chassis. Finally, the buyer can choose from no less than ten different colours, including the new Satin Wine Red finish.

The Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 comes pre-assembled and set up with a Pick it MM EVO MM cartridge from Danish cartridge maker Ortofon, mounted to the end of an 8.6” one-piece tapered carbon fibre tonearm. It features a new low-friction precision tonearm bearing in an aluminium block and a new non-magnetic aluminium platter with TPE damping. The motor suspension has been given improved damping.

The turntable is driven by a precision belt drive system with electronic speed switch for 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute. The metal feet of the chassis are adjustable in height and a new machined MDF chassis has almost no hollow space inside.

Price and delivery information

The Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 comes in ten finishes, including eight-layer paint options or walnut veneer. The manufacturer supplies a premium semi-balanced Connect it E phono cable. The RCA output has gold-plated chassis parts and a dust cover is also included in the package.

The Pro-Ject Audio Debut Evo 2 is expected to ship sometime in September and will retail for just under $700.
